The Anambra State Council of the Boys’ Brigade, Nigeria, has formally invested Ven. Jason Onyekagbusi as its new President during a ceremony held at the Cathedral Church of St. Faith in Awka. The event also marked the inauguration of the new executive members and the induction of new patrons.
Attended by dignitaries, clergy, and Boys’ Brigade members, the ceremony featured Ven. Onyekagbusi and the newly appointed state executives taking oaths of office, pledging to uphold the values and mission of the Boys’ Brigade, which centers on youth development, discipline, and community service.
In his sermon, Venerable Clement Mgbemena traced the origins of the Boys’ Brigade to its founding in 1883 by Sir William Alexander Smith in Glasgow, Scotland. He emphasized the organization’s mission to instill discipline, moral values, and leadership skills in young boys through structured activities and community service.
Venerable Mgbemena commended the Boys’ Brigade for its significant contributions to society, particularly in Nigeria, where it has played a vital role in youth development. He highlighted the Brigade’s achievements in promoting education, spiritual growth, and civic responsibility.
Following the inauguration, Ven. Onyekagbusi expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him and the new executive team. He acknowledged the efforts of his predecessors and shared his vision to enhance the Brigade’s programs and extend its outreach across Anambra State.
New patrons Prof. Uzochukwu Nwanonyuo and Chief Uzoigwe Ejimofor expressed their honor in joining the organization, emphasizing their commitment to guiding and supporting the Boys’ Brigade’s initiatives. They urged youths to avoid cultism, criminality, and other social vices, praising the Brigade’s ongoing commitment to youth development and community service. They also called on all members and stakeholders to engage actively in the Brigade’s activities and uphold its values.
The event included musical performances, parade displays, and goodwill messages from various stakeholders.
