The Anambra State Government has intensified its fight against human trafficking, with the Managing Director of Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), Comrade Celestine Anere, issuing a stern warning to traffickers to vacate the state or face severe consequences.
This declaration came after a joint task force of the OCHA Brigade and the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs uncovered a human trafficking operation in Otolo Nnewi. During the raid, the task force rescued 13 trafficked children, aged between two and 12, and apprehended a suspected trafficker, Angela Okechukwu, along with her collaborators. Fake documents used in the trafficking operation were also confiscated.
According to reports, the trafficker allegedly adopted and sold children to individuals across the country. Comrade Anere condemned the inhumane acts, highlighting the poor health conditions of the rescued children and describing the perpetrators’ actions as heartless and driven by selfish interests.
Residents of the community, including Ikechukwu Nnabuike and Ifechukwu Okoro, expressed gratitude to the state government for its swift intervention. They revealed that previous efforts to stop the trafficker were unsuccessful and commended the authorities for putting an end to the illegal activities.
The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating all forms of criminality and ensuring the safety of its residents, especially vulnerable children.
