The Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, announced that security efforts in the state have significantly curbed insecurity, though he described the state security network as an ongoing project. His remarks were made during an online forum titled “Youth Speak,” where he addressed various pressing issues, including security, kidnapping, flooding, electricity shortages, and the vandalism of government properties.
Dr. Ibezim highlighted the critical need for a united front, calling on residents, community leaders, and security agencies to collaborate with the government in tackling security challenges and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
He emphasized the importance of community engagement, urging Ndi Anambra to take pride in and protect state developments in their areas. Addressing the issue of kidnapping, Dr. Ibezim stressed the importance of community vigilance, urging residents to adopt the slogan “If you see something, say something.” He encouraged people to be aware of their neighbors’ activities as a preventive measure.
In response to reports of vandalism, particularly of water supply infrastructure, Dr. Ibezim warned that such actions would not be tolerated, labeling those responsible as “enemies of progress” who would face serious consequences if apprehended.
“The administration remains committed to transparency and consistently listens to the people, incorporating their needs into its plans,” Dr. Ibezim stated. He affirmed the government’s dedication to empowering individuals, especially youths, through business support, skills acquisition, and other developmental programs.
The Deputy Governor also pledged that his weekly Facebook Live sessions, held every Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., would continue to serve as a platform for engaging with citizens and keeping them informed about government activities.
