Anambra State Executive Council Approves Tax Exemptions, Local Government Empowerment, and Major Infrastructure Contracts

The 35th Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting approved several major decisions aimed at enhancing economic growth, governance, and infrastructure development in the state.

The meeting opened with a solemn prayer for the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the 10th National Assembly. Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR, reflected on his leadership of the government delegation at Ubah’s burial in Nnewi, acknowledging the senator’s significant contributions and underscoring the profound loss to the state.

In its deliberations, the Council encouraged increased private sector participation in the management of public enterprises (PEs), emphasizing that leasing and concessioning of PEs would be more effective than direct government management.

A key highlight of the meeting was the approval of tax exemptions for small-scale businesses in Anambra. The Council granted tax relief to business groups with capital investments of less than N100,000, aiming to support entrepreneurship among the state’s less affluent citizens. Additionally, the Council approved a devolution of more powers to local governments, particularly in the area of sanitation.

The Council reiterated its commitment to enforcing the Anti-Touting Law of Anambra State, urging individuals engaged in touting to take advantage of the Soludo administration’s empowerment schemes for legitimate sources of livelihood.

In terms of infrastructure, the Council approved multiple contracts to bolster key sectors. The rehabilitation of the vandalized injection substation at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Igbariam Campus, was awarded to Kolc Ventures at a cost of N228,147,634.33. The project aims to restore power supply to the university’s campus.

Further, the Council approved the installation of free internet access at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex in Awka. The contract, valued at N81,872,000.00, was awarded to PINE HEIGHT GLOBAL RESOURCES LTD, with the installation to be completed within two weeks.

In support of local commerce, the construction of 151 open stalls at Afuzo Market, Isuofia, was awarded to Crystal Dove Construction Company at N279,072,710.75. The project will provide a much-needed boost to local businesses in the area.

The Amawbia Flyover motorway will also undergo road marking improvements, with Allpee International Ltd securing the contract for N118,716,874.41. The project is expected to be completed within six weeks.

The health sector also received a significant boost with the approval of new medical equipment for hospitals across the state. The contract for the supply and installation of hospital equipment at the Specialist Hospital, Fegge, and the General Hospital, Anaku, was awarded to CHRISLAUG LTD. The total cost for the two hospitals is approximately N653 million, with delivery set for three months post-mobilization.

In a move to improve street lighting, the Council approved the installation of solar street lights in various parts of Awka Metropolis. Contracts were awarded to VIGEO-DOME LTD, FRANKTORCH NIG LTD, and HONEYDOVE INTEGRATED for a total of 1,130 solar-powered lights, with delivery timelines ranging from two to three months.

Finally, the Council also approved the production and installation of 500 “Solution Is Here” fluorescent concrete signs, aimed at branding landmark infrastructures across Anambra. The contract, awarded to Conifer Konstruction Nig Ltd, is valued at N200,000,013.51.

These decisions reflect the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure, empowering local businesses, and enhancing public services in Anambra State.
