Anambra State Government Calls for Collective Action on Food Security at 2024 World Food Day Celebration

As part of the 2024 World Food Day activities, the Anambra State Ministry of Agriculture has urged stakeholders to collaborate in achieving food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The call was made by the Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Foster Ihejiofor, during a road walk to commemorate the United Nations’ World Food Day, themed “Food for Better Life and Better Future.” The global event highlights the urgent need to combat hunger, which currently affects over 733 million people worldwide.

Dr. Ihejiofor emphasized that food security goes beyond the availability of food and encompasses nutrition, safety, access, and stability. He noted that Anambra State, under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s leadership, has initiated several programs aimed at enhancing local food production, promoting agricultural education, and improving access to nutritious food. These efforts are part of a broader commitment to building sustainable agricultural systems that will support the state’s social and economic development.

The commissioner also called for collaboration among government agencies, NGOs, communities, and the private sector to ensure a healthier future for children and their communities. He encouraged all residents of the state to participate in this year’s celebrations and to engage in discussions about food security and sustainable farming.

During the road walk, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, highlighted the state government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to healthy and nutritious food. She reiterated the ministry’s readiness to boost agricultural productivity, strengthen food systems, and improve the livelihoods of farmers in the state.

The 2024 World Food Day celebrations in Anambra continue to promote awareness about food security and the collective responsibility of building a sustainable future for all.
