The Anambra State government has inaugurated a special task force to implement the Cadre Harmonise (CH) program, aimed at enhancing food security and nutrition analysis in the state. The inauguration, held in Awka, is part of a broader initiative by the Federal Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to extend the successful program to all states in the country.
The Cadre Harmonise is an early warning tool developed at the request of Food and Nutrition Insecurity stakeholders, including governments, international and local NGOs, civil society groups, and partners in the Food Crisis Prevention Network (RPCA). It is used for the prevention and management of food and nutrition insecurity.
During the inauguration, Dr. Forster Ifejiofor, the Commissioner for Agriculture, highlighted Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to measurable management, emphasizing that the CH program will identify measurable indexes related to food and nutrition security in Anambra State. Dr. Ifejiofor stated that the analysis from the Cadre Harmonise will provide early warning alerts to national and state governments, as well as development partners, helping to address food security and nutrition issues effectively.
Mr. Arthur Mbuba, the State Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, expressed his satisfaction with the inauguration and commended stakeholders and the government for maintaining high standards in the state.
Mr. Anthony Amu, the Team Leader and Deputy Director of Monitoring and Evaluation under the National Programme for Food Security (NPFS), noted that the CH program began in Nigeria in 2015 and aims to provide an accurate picture of the country’s food and nutrition situation. He expressed confidence in Anambra State’s continued leadership in this area.
Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka, the Permanent Secretary of the State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, praised the selection of highly skilled professionals for the task force, emphasizing the government’s commitment to revitalizing the nation’s economy.
