Anambra State Government Moves to Clear Shanties Along Enugu-Onitsha Expressway

The Anambra State Government has declared a crackdown on the erection of shanties and makeshift shops along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. This announcement was made public in a statement from the environment monitoring task force, Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra State, signed by its Managing Director, Comrade Celestine Anere, on October 18, 2024.

The State Government aims to eliminate shanties and structures from the Amansea axis of the Federal highway to Bridgehead in Onitsha Metropolis. The release advises traders along the highway to begin dismantling and evacuating their structures, warning that enforcement will begin two weeks after the announcement.

“The State Government will not hesitate to take action against anyone who defies this directive,” the statement emphasized.

Additionally, all motor parks located along the Federal highway are required to be properly gated to promote a safer and more organized environment for all users of the road.
