Anambra State Government Pledges to Prosecute Illegal Miners

The Anambra State Government, through its Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade), has vowed to crack down on illegal mining and dredging activities across the state, promising to prosecute violators.

Comrade Celestine Anere, Managing Director of the OCHA Brigade, made this declaration during a visit to Bridge Head, Onitsha. He announced that the agency had launched an inspection exercise targeting areas where illegal mining has been reported, including the Second Niger Bridge in Onitsha and Nibo in Awka South Local Government Area. Several offenders were arrested, and their operations were sealed.

Anere emphasized that this action follows complaints from residents about the resumption of illegal sand mining in these areas without proper government approvals. The initiative aligns with directives from Governor Chukwuma Soludo, aiming to curb illegal mining and mitigate its harmful environmental effects.

Anere also urged citizens to report illegal activities by contacting the OCHA Brigade through the following numbers: 07069680112, 08122554530, 08069695398, 08120356133.
