The Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has resolved to cover the medical bills of Mr. Okechukwu Akaneme, a former President of the Onitsha Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (ONACCIMA), as part of its commitment to justice and the sanctity of human life.
Mr. Akaneme is currently receiving treatment in an Enugu hospital after sustaining life-threatening injuries reportedly inflicted by contract agents of the Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA).
During its 37th meeting at the Government House, Awka, the council also announced the suspension of the implicated waste management company’s services, pending the outcome of a panel of inquiry investigating the incident.
Providing further insights, Anambra’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, disclosed that a fact-finding team, comprising the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, and ASWAMA’s Managing Director, Mr. Mike Ozoemena, was dispatched by Governor Chukwuma Soludo to assess Mr. Akaneme’s condition. The council acted based on the team’s findings.
In addition to addressing the incident, Dr. Mefor highlighted Governor Soludo’s commitment to infrastructure development, particularly roads with significant economic impact. The governor has directed relevant ministries to ensure that all roads are motorable ahead of the yuletide season, aiming to improve connectivity and ease traffic flow across communities.
