Anambra State Government Vows Justice for Murdered Lawyer and Kidnapped Colleague

Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has vowed that his administration will take all necessary steps to rescue Barrister Chukwubuike Azoro, a kidnapped member of the state chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA). Additionally, he promised to bring to justice the killers of Barrister Awa P. Awa, the vice chairman of the NBA Ihiala Branch and principal state counsel.

Governor Soludo, represented by his Deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, made these assurances during a meeting with state NBA members who were protesting peacefully at the State High Court premises in Awka. He emphasized that the protection of lives and property is a top priority for his administration. He assured that the government, in collaboration with security agencies, will intensify efforts to combat all forms of insecurity and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.

Governor Soludo expressed deep regret over the rising insecurity and reminded residents that security is a collective responsibility. He urged citizens to cooperate with the government and security agencies by providing necessary information to help maintain safety and order.

The Chairman of the Committee of Chairmen and Secretaries, NBA Branches in Anambra State, Barrister Izuchukwu Nsofor, revealed that Barrister Awa was brutally murdered by unidentified gunmen in Okija on Sunday, May 19, 2024. He also highlighted the recent kidnapping of Barrister Azoro, the secretary of the Idemili branch of the NBA, and called for enhanced security measures to protect lawyers and other residents in the state.

The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Security, Air Vice Marshal Chiobi, were also present at the event, underscoring the government’s commitment to addressing these security challenges.
