Anambra State Hosts Capacity Building Workshop for Technical College Educators

Highlighting the need to equip Science and Technical Colleges with essential tools for effective teaching, the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC) of Anambra State, in collaboration with Al-Mac Limited, organized a one-day capacity building workshop for principals and teachers. The event, held at Ebele Ofunneamaka Okeke Federal Secretariat in Awka, drew participants from the state’s six educational zones.

Themed “Anambra State Technical Colleges: A Panacea in Solving the State Economic Problems,” the workshop emphasized the critical role of technical education in addressing economic challenges. The Commissioner for Education, Professor Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, represented by Mrs. Ngozi Enemuo, urged participants to engage actively and bring back valuable insights to their schools to further the vision and objectives of the training.

Opening the workshop, PPSSC Executive Chairman Professor Nkechi Ikediugwu highlighted the importance of preparing students for a rapidly changing technological world. She thanked Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Commissioner for Education for their commitment to educational excellence in the state.

Mrs. Eucharia Ikegwuonwu, Director of the Science and Technology Department at PPSSC, noted that science and technology education can significantly contribute to economic development. She emphasized the importance of integrating and strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs in the school system.

Engineer Ngozi Okelekwe, Director of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) South East Zone, delivered a keynote on “Effective Leadership in State Science and Technical Colleges with Emphasis on Skills and Entrepreneurship Development.” She stressed the need to promote skills and apprenticeship training under the new Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework to transform Nigeria’s economy.

Other speakers, including Professor Tagboo Ibeneme, Dr. Anne Dioka, and Lady Sabina Ndigwe, also presented papers. The workshop featured various activities such as pre-production inspections, exhibitions, sales stands from Government Technical Colleges, the inauguration of the National Association of Principals of Science and Technical Colleges, Anambra State Branch, group discussions, and the award of certificates.
