The Anambra State Ministry of Information has expressed its readiness to support the upcoming 2024 Anambra Christmas Village, which will take place from December 12, 2024, to January 12, 2025, at Anambra Stadium in Awka. Themed *“People, Solution, and the Magic of Christmas,”* the event is being organized by the Anambra State Government in collaboration with Descendants Fortune Investment Limited.
During a meeting with the event’s Marketing Team in Awka, the state’s Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, praised the initiative, highlighting its significance for residents, particularly children, who will have the opportunity to learn about their culture during the Christmas season.
Dr. Mefor encouraged the organizers to include both tangible and non-material aspects of Igbo culture, particularly language, to help preserve the Igbo language, which is considered endangered. He emphasized that incorporating cultural elements would be beneficial, especially for children raised outside the region for whom Igbo may be a second language.
The Commissioner assured the team that he would coordinate with the Ministry of Culture to explore avenues for collaboration. He also requested a formal proposal from the organizers outlining specific areas of support.
Prince Okafor, leader of the organizing group, and Thelma Benson, head of the Marketing Team, explained that the visit aimed to inform the Commissioner about the event and seek support in terms of publicity. The Christmas Village is set to feature entertainment, culture, and traditions, providing an opportunity for the younger generation to engage with and understand Igbo cultural values.
