In a bid to boost productivity and service quality, the Anambra State Ministry of Justice held its 2024 annual training session for law officers.
The event was inaugurated by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje, who encouraged participants to enhance their commitment to their roles. She emphasized the importance of applying the day’s lessons to sharpen their advocacy skills and excel in legal practice.
Professor Ifemeje highlighted the significant achievements of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who has collaborated with the legislature and judiciary to enact appropriate laws and ensure swift justice delivery. She noted the Governor’s recent signing of 11 bills into law as evidence of these efforts.
The Commissioner expressed gratitude to Governor Soludo for his dedication to improving the justice sector, including the renovation of four Ministry of Justice outstations, providing a conducive environment for state counsels.
During the training, Justice David Onyefulu of High Court Three Onitsha presented a paper on “Overview of Criminal Proceedings from the Perspective of the Prosecution.” Barrister Emmanuel Ike, Solicitor General and Permanent Secretary-Emeritus, discussed the role of cross-examination as a critical tool in trials.
Barrister Mrs. Ndirika Onyekwelu, Permanent Secretary supervising the Ministry of Justice, urged participants to embrace teamwork and avoid insubordination to achieve excellence.
Senior State Counsels Ginika Olisa and Ifeoma Nwigwe, among other participants, acknowledged that the new insights gained from the training would significantly enhance their legal practice and service to the state.
The event also included a moment of silence in honor of departed colleagues.
