Commissioner for Culture and Entertainment, Mr. Don Onyenji, highlighted the cultural and economic impact of such events, stating, “This picnic and funfair is about celebrating our rich cultural heritage and fostering community bonding. Anambra State is dedicated to showcasing our identity and promoting tourism development.” Onyenji expressed optimism that if fully realized, Anambra’s tourism sector could drive significant economic growth, positioning the state as a top economic powerhouse in Nigeria.
**Major Tourism and Infrastructure Projects Underway**
Anambra’s commitment to tourism extends beyond events, with several transformative projects under construction. Solution Fun City in Awka, designed to be Sub-Saharan Africa’s premier entertainment hub, will feature a country club, amusement park, and sports facilities. Additional projects include the Neighbourhood Leisure Park and a ten-story hotel in Awka, both aimed at enhancing Anambra’s attractiveness to residents and tourists.
Other initiatives spotlight rural tourism, with heritage sites such as Ogbunike Cave, Owerre-Ezukala Waterfalls, and the historic Ojukwu Bunker in Amorka receiving attention. To support these efforts, the Anambra State Chapter of the Tourism Volunteers Network was inaugurated, emphasizing collaboration to expand tourism into rural areas.
Governor Soludo’s vision aims to make Anambra a model for liveability and economic growth. This commitment is evident in projects like the Igboukwu Museum expansion and the Agulu Lake Leisure Park, which will feature an artificial beach.
