The Anambra State Government has revealed plans to establish schools in communities lacking educational facilities, ensuring that every area in the state has access to both primary and secondary education.
This initiative was announced by the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, during a meeting with members of the Anambra Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) and the Post Primary School Service Commission (PPSSC) at the Ministry of Education’s Conference Hall in Awka.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh explained that the move aligns with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision to provide education for all children in Anambra, regardless of their location or family income. The Commissioner highlighted the importance of ensuring no child is left behind in the state’s educational system, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to quality education.
She encouraged communities without schools to submit comprehensive survey plans of available land, signed by the community president-general and two other prominent members, to the Ministry of Education for consideration. The state is also open to taking over existing schools from communities that wish to hand over ownership to the government.
Governor Soludo, she added, views education as a powerful tool for social equality and a fundamental right that must be available to every child in Anambra. Prof. Chuma-Udeh called on communities to collaborate with the state government and take advantage of this opportunity to expand educational access across the state.
