Governor Chukwuma Soludo has declared that his administration will commence the payment of seventy thousand naira (N70,000) national minimum wage to civil servants in the state by next month of October.
Soludo mulled the decision yesterday, September 26, 2024 during his meeting with all the principals and head teachers of public primary and secondary schools held at the Dora Akunyili Women Development center in Awka.
He said, ” I’m pleased to share that by next month, in October, we will implement the new minimum wage, reinforcing our commitment to our educators and public servants.”
Moreover, the governor announced the extension of free education to the senior secondary classes in the state thereby making nursery, primary and secondary school education completely free in the state.
” I’m proud to announce the expansion of our free education policy to include senior secondary students in all public schools, building on our existing free education from Nursery to JSS 3. For families who have already paid school fees, rest assured that refunds will be issued. We believe that education should be a right, not a privilege.”
” We also recognize that the foundation of quality education lies in our teachers. That’s why we are prioritizing teacher quality to ensure our students receive the best possible education.
He pointed out that Education was the key to, “unlocking our children’s futures, and it’s a collective responsibility we all share. Despite resource constraints, we are dedicated to making education not just qualitative, but accessible to all.
Mrs Okonkwo Theresa who participated in the meeting could not hide her joy in thanking the Governor for his educational packages. She commended him for announcing the payment of minimum wage next month shouted that “solution is here”.
