The Anambra Ministry of Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, in collaboration with the Tourism Volunteers Network (Anambra Chapter), is set to host the inaugural *Picnic and Funfair 1.0* on Sunday, October 13, 2024. This event will take place at the Anambra Film Village, located behind the Kenneth Dike Library in Awka.
The fun-filled event will feature performances from cultural kids’ ballad dancers, traditional games like ludo, Ncho, and tug of war, as well as cultural music entertainment. Attendees can look forward to enjoying local delicacies such as roasted plantain, yam and sauce, African salad (abacha), and palm wine. The event promises a range of side attractions for both adults and children.
Speaking during a meeting with the Anambra Tourism Volunteers Network Planning Committee, Commissioner for Culture, Entertainment, and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, explained that the event aligns with Governor Charles Soludo’s vision of transforming Anambra into a prosperous mega smart-city, attracting residents and visitors for business, leisure, and living.
“The Soludo administration is working on projects like the Solution Fun City and Solution Neighborhood Leisure Park, which aim to boost tourism and provide relaxation spots across the state,” Mr. Onyenji said. He invited parents to bring their children to the cultural fiesta, promising an enriching experience for all.
Ms. Chinazom Okey-Umeh, Executive State Coordinator and Chairman of the Planning Committee, highlighted that the event is the first of its kind in Anambra. It will showcase traditional games, cultural performances, and local cuisine, with the goal of promoting tourism, attracting investment, and boosting job creation in the state. She urged parents to bring their children, along with swimming trunks, as the event will feature children’s pools and a special kiddie section for relaxation and entertainment.
The *Picnic and Funfair 1.0* is expected to be a landmark cultural event, setting a new standard for leisure activities in the state.
