As part of the ongoing *16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV)*, the Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, has extended the campaign to students, emphasizing the importance of awareness and prevention.
Addressing students of Kenneth Dike Memorial Secondary School, Awka, Mrs. Obinabo highlighted critical issues such as the dangers of indecent dressing, the consequences of rape, and the negative impact of drug abuse on individuals and society. She urged the students to speak up and seek help whenever they encounter gender-based violence or related challenges.
In response, students including Nonso Ofonze, Rita Nwafor, and Chioma Okonkwo shared insights from the session, pledging to spread the message within their homes and communities.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between the state Ministries of Health and Women and Social Welfare, with support from the World Health Organization (WHO). The campaign aims to foster awareness and proactive measures to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence in Anambra State.
