The Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Ify Obinabo, has called on residents and stakeholders to collaborate with the state government in eradicating gender-based violence and fostering a safer, more inclusive society.
Mrs. Obinabo made the appeal during a pre-conference press briefing for the 2024 Unite Conference and the commencement of 16 days of activism against gender-based violence in Anambra State.
She emphasized that the campaign, themed *”Unite to End Gender-Based Violence in Anambra State,”* aligns with global efforts to raise awareness and inspire action against violence targeting women and girls.
The Commissioner acknowledged the pivotal role played by the Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption (RoLAC II) Programme in supporting the state’s fight against gender-based violence. She highlighted key legislative milestones achieved with RoLAC’s support, including the domestication of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, the Child Rights Law, and the Anambra State Disability Rights Law.
Mrs. Obinabo urged all stakeholders, including government agencies, civil society groups, and traditional rulers, to actively participate in the Unite Conference against gender-based violence scheduled for Wednesday. She noted that the event would serve as a platform to assess progress, strategize, and strengthen collaborations to eliminate gender-based violence in the state.
