In line with the Anambra State Government’s vision of building a green, livable, and prosperous state, the Mayor of Anaocha Local Government Area, Comrade Rome Ibekwe, has initiated a major erosion control project at the Neni axis of the Nimo-Neni-Nnewi road.
The project addresses a gully erosion site approximately 22 feet deep, with a drainage system spanning about 900 meters. The construction, expected to take a year and six months, will be executed through a Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP).
Speaking at the project flag-off, Comrade Ibekwe emphasized the urgency of the intervention, warning that the erosion could cut off the road if left unattended. Adjacent to the erosion site, the council has allocated eleven plots of land for the construction of 350 ultramodern lock-up shops, marking another milestone in infrastructure development.
Comrade Ibekwe reiterated his administration’s commitment to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda of strengthening public infrastructure. He called on wealthy individuals and stakeholders to support initiatives aimed at transforming Anaocha into a thriving community.
The event drew praise from various dignitaries, including the Managing Director of the Anambra State Urban Water Assets Holding Corporation, Mr. Ikeobi Ejiofor, and the President General of Neni Community, Sir Christian Ikebudu, who commended Comrade Ibekwe’s impactful leadership.
Stakeholders such as Sir Anthony Ugorji, Chairman of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anaocha; Mrs. Ijeoma Sunny-Egbuna, the Local Government Woman Leader; and Mr. Ephraim Ononenyi, Speaker of the Anaocha Legislative Council, lauded the mayor’s proactive efforts in addressing erosion and other challenges in the area.
Comrade Ibekwe also hosted a thank-you gathering for APGA executives and stakeholders in appreciation of their support during and after the local government elections.
