In Awka, members of Nigeria’s judiciary were reminded of their responsibility to uphold justice, as the Anglican Archbishop of the Niger Province and Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, emphasized the need for divine guidance within the legal system. Speaking at the Cathedral Church of Saint Faith during a church service marking the beginning of the 2024/2025 legal year for Anambra’s judiciary, Bishop Ibezim stressed that God seeks to use the judiciary as an instrument for positive change in Nigeria, warning that without a commitment to justice, the nation may face a revolution.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Ernest Ezeajughi, highlighted the cooperative relationship between Anambra’s executive, legislative, and judicial branches, noting that this synergy has supported state development. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to transparency and to maximizing resources to meet the state’s needs.
Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, expressed gratitude to Bishop Ibezim for his motivational message, urging continued prayers for the judiciary. The service also saw attendance from other prominent figures, including the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Barrister Afam Osigwe; Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Professor Sylvia Ifemeje; and Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze. The event was held under the theme, “Advancing Judicial Excellence in the 21st Century.”
