As the Anambra State local government elections approach, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, Chairman of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC), has assured that no political party or candidate will be given preferential treatment.
Speaking ahead of the September 28 elections, Magistrate Osakwe urged Ndi Anambra to ignore false propaganda claiming that the commission had endorsed certain candidates. She stressed the importance of rejecting such rumors, emphasizing that ANSIEC is committed to a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
Her remarks came during the final leg of ANSIEC’s tour of local government areas, including Awka North, Awka South, Dunukofia, Anaocha, and Njikoka. The tour was attended by stakeholders from various sectors, including political parties, candidates, religious leaders, and traditional institutions. Magistrate Osakwe explained that the purpose of the tour was to engage with local communities and share ANSIEC’s plans for a transparent election, using grassroots leaders to promote civic participation.
She reiterated that the election would be impartial, urging the electorate to play an active role and vote for quality representation.
During the tour, community representatives expressed appreciation for ANSIEC’s efforts. Mr. Fidelis Chukwunedu, President General of Awba-Ofemili, praised the commission for involving all 21 local government areas and pledged to encourage voter turnout within his community.
