ANSIEC Pledges Transparent Local Government Elections in Anambra State

The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) has assured residents and political parties that the upcoming Local Government elections will be conducted in a transparent and credible manner.

The assurance was given by the ANSIEC Chairman, Magistrate Genevieve Osakwe, during a tour in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area. The tour, which marked the beginning of ANSIEC’s outreach to local government areas, included interactive sessions with stakeholders from both Idemili North and South.

Represented by the Commissioner in charge of Information and Publicity, Sir Anthony Nnalue, Magistrate Osakwe refuted claims by what she termed “mischievous individuals” that the election results had already been predetermined. She dismissed these claims as baseless propaganda intended to discourage voter participation.

Magistrate Osakwe urged political parties and candidates to focus on their campaigns, assuring that the elections would be conducted lawfully and transparently. She emphasized that the purpose of the tour is to bring ANSIEC’s message to the grassroots level, encouraging full participation and engagement from the electorate.

She also called on voters to demand that political parties present candidates of integrity, as local government leadership plays a crucial role in governance. Additionally, she stressed the importance of educating and sensitizing the public on the election process and the timetable for the upcoming September 28th Local Government elections.

The stakeholders meeting was attended by prominent figures, including the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Entertainment and Leisure, Mr. Bob-Manuel Udokwu, the Transition Committee Chairman for Idemili North Local Government Area, Mr. Stanley Nkwoka, and his Idemili South counterpart, Mrs. Amaka Obi.
