Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has pledged to continue his boxing career despite a surprising defeat to Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. In a dramatic turn of events, Dubois dropped Joshua multiple times before landing a decisive right hand in Round 5, handing Joshua his fourth career loss and retaining his IBF belt.
Joshua, who was eyeing a return to the top of the heavyweight division, expressed his determination to keep fighting during the post-fight news conference. “Of course, I want to continue fighting,” Joshua said, according to ESPN. “We took a shot at success and came up short, but that doesn’t mean we run away. We live to fight another day.”
The British-Nigerian fighter was knocked down for the first time at the end of Round 1 after Dubois delivered a strong left jab. Despite the setback, Joshua praised Dubois’ performance, saying, “Credit to Daniel. Well done to him and his team. There were a few mistakes on my side, but that’s the nature of the sport. Fine margins make the difference at the top level.”
Promoter Eddie Hearn hinted at the possibility of a rematch, noting that Joshua has an agreement to fight on another Riyadh Season card, which could include a bout against Dubois or potentially Tyson Fury. “I don’t see this as the fight that ends his career,” Hearn said. “He’s in the final chapters, but he still wants big fights, and the next decision will be crucial.”
Hearn added that Joshua is unlikely to seek a tune-up fight, stating, “He’s going to want a major fight next. I don’t believe he’ll return for a lower-level bout. The focus is now on making the right move to finish his career on a high note.”
Joshua’s loss has left questions about his future in the heavyweight division, but the former champion remains focused on redemption and continuing his journey in the sport.
