APC Dismisses Potential Atiku-Obi Merger as Act of Desperation

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has rebuffed talks of a potential merger between Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, and Peter Obi, the standard-bearer of the Labour Party, describing them as desperate politicians who cannot be trusted with power.

In a statement issued by the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, titled “Atiku, Obi united by mutual desperation,” the ruling party criticized the meeting between the two opposition candidates as fueled by mutual desperation to prevent President Bola Tinubu from returning to office in 2027.

Morka expressed skepticism regarding the outcome of the meeting, asserting that it would amount to nothing, given the opportunistic nature of Atiku and Obi’s political aspirations.

The statement highlighted a recent meeting between Obi and Atiku, where they met behind closed doors, sparking speculation about a potential alliance between their political parties ahead of the 2027 elections. However, Morka emphasized uncertainty regarding Obi’s willingness to return to the PDP or Atiku’s readiness to join the Labour Party.

The APC spokesman criticized Atiku and Obi’s political track records, labeling them as political wanderers lacking the commitment to address the nation’s challenges effectively.

Morka urged Nigerians to maintain their support for the APC and President Tinubu, emphasizing their commitment to delivering a stronger, more secure, and prosperous nation.

The statement comes amidst speculations and discussions surrounding the political landscape as parties prepare for the upcoming elections.
