Nine deacons have been ordained as priests in the Anglican Diocese of Awka during the 2024 Advent Priestly Ordination held at the Cathedral Church of St. Faith, Awka. The ceremony was presided over by the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of the Diocese of Awka, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim.
In his charge to the newly ordained, Archbishop Ibezim emphasized their sacred responsibilities as pastors, priests, prophets, and teachers, urging them to work collaboratively with their bishop and fellow clergy. He called on them to serve their communities with love, ministering to people across all walks of life, and to boldly proclaim God’s forgiveness to sinners.
The retreatant and Bishop of the Diocese on the Lake, Right Reverend Chijioke Oti, spoke on the ordination theme, *”Priestly and Ministerial Mandate.”* He highlighted the critical role of dedication, prayer, and sound doctrine in ministry, urging the priests to remain steadfast in their faith and to let their lives reflect Christ’s teachings as they serve as agents of hope and transformation.
On behalf of the newly ordained priests, Reverends Ozoemena Ezeugo and Emmanuel Anaemena expressed gratitude to God and the Diocese for their ordination. They pledged to honor their calling and serve diligently in their new roles.
The ceremony, attended by a large congregation, family, and well-wishers, was filled with joy, hymns, prayers, and thanksgiving, marking a significant milestone in the Diocese of Awka.
