Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, has reiterated the need for Eastern Nigeria to be given the opportunity to lead the nation, citing years of marginalization and advocating for justice and peace.
During his presidential charge at the second session of the 13th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Awka, held at the Church of Pentecost, Awka, Archbishop Ibezim emphasized the urgency of addressing the plight of Eastern Nigeria by advocating for Igbo presidency.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to uphold justice by obeying court orders, particularly concerning the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu. Additionally, Archbishop Ibezim criticized the prevailing economic hardship in the country, urging President Tinubu to revamp economic policies for transformative value.
Commending Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration for its developmental strides in Anambra State, Archbishop Ibezim highlighted the need to address issues such as cultism and abuse of power by government agencies.
Reflecting on the Synod’s theme, “Running the Christian Race: Implication for the Church in Perilous Times,” Archbishop Ibezim urged believers to approach their Christian journey with purpose, discipline, and the pursuit of eternal rewards.
Governor Soludo, represented by the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze, reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring safety and fostering societal well-being.
Bishops Samuel Ezeofor and Owen Nwokolo emphasized the importance of adhering to the principles of the Word of God in navigating life’s challenges.
The Synod, attended by over 40 Archbishops and Bishops, as well as various dignitaries, adopted Archbishop Ibezim’s charge as a guiding document for the diocese. The event underscored the role of the church in shaping character, saving lives, and engaging youth in meaningful activities amidst perilous times.
