The Archbishop of the Province of the Niger, Most Reverend Alexander Ibezim, has issued a stern warning to land grabbers and speculators, cautioning that encroaching on church property can result in curses and death. Speaking during a sermon at Saint Nicolas Church, Achalla, in the Awka North Council Area, he described church properties as “God’s own inheritance.”
Archbishop Ibezim condemned individuals in the area who have encroached on church land and are contesting ownership, urging them to cease their activities. His remarks came as he inaugurated the Achalla Archdeaconry, expressing hope that the new status would spur progress, development, and increased evangelism in the region.
He encouraged the newly formed Archdeaconry to unite as a family with the mission of winning souls for Christ, assuring them of God’s renewal and support.
The traditional ruler of Achalla, Igwe Sunny Nwokedi, welcomed the Archbishop and expressed his satisfaction with the inauguration. He praised the elevation of the church to an Archdeaconry and vowed to prevent any future invasions of church land, supporting the Archbishop’s stance on ecumenism.
Venerable Gilbert Nwankwo, the newly appointed Archdeacon of Achalla Archdeaconry, shared that the Archbishop’s visits always motivate him with encouraging words and knowledge, strengthening his ministry.
Mrs. Ngozi Christian, a member of the inauguration committee, expressed immense joy over the creation of Achalla Archdeaconry from Mgbakwu Archdeaconry, calling it a historical milestone. She lauded Most Reverend Ibezim for his accomplishments within the diocese.
Archbishop Ibezim concluded the ceremony by reading the deed of inauguration, urging the Archdeaconry to collaborate effectively with the Diocese’s legal team, led by Registrar Barrister Chris Adimora. The service culminated with special prayers and a thanksgiving celebration.
