The Anambra state Association of Town Unions (ASATU) has honoured the past president general of Nteje Development Union, Chief Chidiebele Obika for his performance during his time in office.
Obika was honoured alongside others yesterday, December 7, 2024 during the general meeting of ASATU held at the government house in Awka and presided over by the National President of the union, Hon. Barr Titus Akpudo which was attended by the Presidents General from the 179 communities in the state and guests.
In his brief remarks before the awards presentations, the National President of ASATU, Barrister Titus Akpudo informed that the individuals to be honoured included personalities who helped or were helping the union in projecting and promoting the interest of the union and past presidents general who distinguished themselves during their time in office.
He urged the award recipients to be good ambassadors of the union and continue supporting the association.
After receiving the award, the former PG of Nteje Community, Chidiebele Obika thanked the leadership of ASATU for recognizing his efforts and honouring him.
Obika used the opportunity to call on government to recognise communities as the fourth tier of government highlighting its closeness to the people and the job of community administration as key in entrenching peace and development in the towns.
On his part, the PG of Isiagu community, Chief Udochukwu Nebedum congratulated the award recipient especially the former PG of Nteje community, Obika whom he stated was his bossom friend.
Others honoured were the Speaker Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, state Commandant, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr Onyishi, Commissioner Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Nnake among others.
