High Chief Augustine Azubuike Ekweozor, also known as Nwa Anayo Eze, a prominent figure from Umuawulu in Anambra State, has partnered with the Catholic Diocese of Awka, St. Joseph’s Parish, Umuawulu, to enroll over 70 indigenes of the community in the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme (ASHIA). His dedication to community development highlights his ongoing commitment to the Awka North and South Federal Constituency, even though he is not currently serving as its representative.
The registration exercise took place at the church premises, where the parish priest, Rev. Fr. Benjamin Odika, emphasized the importance of health insurance and the role of the church in promoting the well-being of its members. He expressed gratitude to High Chief Ekweozor for his generosity, noting that access to healthcare is a fundamental right that many vulnerable individuals struggle to afford. He also called on well-meaning individuals and organizations to support similar initiatives, as healthcare should not be a privilege but a necessity for all. Rev. Fr. Odika further encouraged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the program and seek medical attention whenever needed, rather than resorting to self-medication or delaying treatment due to financial constraints.
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Anoliefo Nneoma, who represented the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to prioritizing the health of the people. She emphasized that ASHIA remains dedicated to providing quality, affordable, and efficient healthcare services to all.
The beneficiaries present expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the opportunity to access healthcare services without suffering financial hardship. Many shared their personal experiences of struggling to afford medical treatment in the past and described the initiative as a life-changing intervention that would bring peace of mind to families in the community.
