The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) commemorated the 2024 Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day with the unveiling of its Strategic Health Development Plan for 2025-2029, reaffirming its commitment to providing quality healthcare for all residents of the state.
Speaking at the event, ASHIA Managing Director, Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, highlighted the significance of UHC, emphasizing the need for equitable access to quality health services without financial hardship. Dr. Onyemaechi praised Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s unwavering support, which he credited for the agency’s progressive strides since its inception.
Dr. Onyemaechi revealed that the newly launched strategic plan is designed to accelerate the attainment of UHC by achieving 90% health insurance coverage for the state’s populace by 2030. He further disclosed that ASHIA has already enrolled over 230,000 active participants in its scheme.
Representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Obiageli Uchebo, commended ASHIA for its contributions to improving the state’s healthcare indices. She urged Anambra residents to embrace the health insurance scheme to ensure a healthier future for the state.
Hon. Tony Muobike, Chairman of the Anambra State House of Assembly Committee on Health, described the strategic plan as a significant milestone. He assured ASHIA of legislative support to enhance its operations and expand its impact.
The event featured goodwill messages from representatives of civil society organizations, the National Health Insurance Authority, the World Health Organization, and the State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. The official launch of the Strategic Health Development Plan marked the highlight of the event.
