The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has sponsored a two-day free medical screening exercise as part of events marking 2024 Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Anambra State Chapter, May Day activities. The event took place on the 25th and 26th of April, 2024 at the NUT building in Awka.
Addressing the gathering, the Head of Service for Anambra State, Barr. Theodora Okwy Igwegbe, commended the NLC chairman and committee members for their innovative initiative to prioritize the health of the state’s civil servants; a first in Anambra state’s history. “If you are not healthy, you cannot serve the state properly,” she emphasized, urging workers to prioritize their health.
Comr. Humphrey Emeka Nwafor, Chairman of the NLC, Anambra State Chapter, expressed gratitude to the special guests, the committee members, and the state health insurance scheme for their collaborative efforts in ensuring the success of the event.
Dr. Simeon Onyemaechi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency, while speaking highlighted the agency’s legal mandate to provide quality, affordable, and equitably distributed healthcare services to prevent catastrophic medical expenses.
He expressed delight in partnering with the Labour Congress to offer free blood pressure check-ups, random blood sugar tests, and prostate-specific antigen tests for men, as well as free eyeglasses following consultations with optometrists.
