The Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) recently held its 2024 Annual Leadership Retreat for Head Teachers, Officers-in-Charge, and Directors from the state’s six educational zones.
The retreat, which took place in Okpuno, Awka South Council area, was themed “Education as Panacea for Human Capital Development: Effective and Efficient School Management as Sustaining Factors.” The program is divided into four groups, with the first group of participants already underway.
Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, emphasized the significant influence teachers have over their pupils and students during an interactive session. She encouraged educators to leverage their influence to instill moral and family values in their learners. Dr. Nwadinobi lamented the erosion of societal values in Nigeria, stressing the importance of returning to these values to ensure that children are raised to be respectful and disciplined. She also urged teachers to incorporate practical skills into their curriculum to instill a strong work ethic in students from a young age.
In her presentation titled “Curriculum Prepares Learners to Meet the Needs of Society: School as Propeller,” Mrs. Kate Ndulue highlighted the role of the curriculum in shaping students into responsible citizens capable of addressing community challenges.
Another speaker, Engineer Mike Neboh, delivered an extensive talk on “Data Collection and Analysis Management in Schools,” emphasizing the importance of data-driven decision-making within the school system. He noted that ASUBEB operates as a data-based commission, and accurate data collection is vital for effective school management.
In a vote of thanks, Mrs. Edith Uzochukwu from the Nnewi zone commended Dr. Nwadinobi for her dedication to advancing education in the state and praised the directors for their cooperation.
The retreat, which began on August 25, 2024, will continue in batches until September 25, 2024, for all four groups of participants.
