ASUU Issues 21-Day Ultimatum to Federal Government Over Unmet Demands

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a 21-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, following a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at the University of Ibadan (UI) from August 17 to 18, 2024.

During the meeting, ASUU resolved to hold a referendum across its branches to decide whether to proceed with a strike, either immediately, in phases, or not at all. The union’s demands include renegotiating the FG/ASUU 2009 agreement, payment of withheld salaries, the adoption of the UTAS for salary payments, resolution of promotion arrears, cessation of university proliferation, revitalization of public universities, settlement of Earned Academic Allowances, addressing victimization of union leaders, and resolving non-payment issues in some state universities.

ASUU has criticized the federal government for failing to include these demands in the 2023 budget, as previously promised.
