Australia’s Alanna Smith Admits to Physicality Shortcomings in Loss to Nigeria

Australia forward Alanna Smith has acknowledged that the Opals struggled to cope with the physicality of Nigeria’s D’Tigress during their Group B clash at the 2024 Olympic Games. The Australian team was defeated 75-62 by Rena Wakama’s side.

Smith highlighted the key issue in their performance: “Turning the ball over was the crux of the game. We turned the ball over way too much and were not prepared to handle the physicality of the match,” she said post-game.

Australia’s next challenge will be against Canada, while Nigeria will face host France in their upcoming fixtures.
