Residents and stakeholders of Awka Ward 8 have declared support for Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second-term ambition after the commissioning of the rehabilitated Book Foundation Road and Esther Obiakor Boulevard in Agu-Awka, Anambra State.
The project, carried out by the Anambra State Government through the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) under the leadership of Managing Director Dr. Ossy Onuko, drew community leaders, transport operators and political figures.
Speaking at the event, the Secretary of Awka South Local Government Area, Sir Peter Uyanwunne, who represented the Mayor, Prince Chinedu Okafor, commended Governor Soludo’s commitment to infrastructure, noting that the road had resolved long-standing challenges of flooding and poor access.
APGA Ward 8 Chairman, Mr. Nathan Obikwelu, hailed the project as a major relief and assured that the ward would deliver overwhelming support for Soludo in the November 8 governorship election. He warned tricycle and vehicle operators against dumping refuse into drainage channels, stressing that violators would be prosecuted in mobile courts.
The Chairman of the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, Awka Zone, Prince Collins Ozojiofor, said the rehabilitation had reduced the cost of vehicle repairs for operators, praising Soludo for addressing transporters’ concerns.
Other stakeholders, including APGA Ward 8 Vice Chairman Comrade Uchegbu Onyeka, Motorcycle Riders Chairman Mohammed Audu and Councillor Ward 8 Maduebunam Olisa, also applauded the governor. They noted that transport fares on the route had dropped from ₦400 to ₦200 since the road was completed. The leaders pledged to mobilize full support for Soludo’s re-election, promising to deliver 100 per cent of Ward 8 votes.
