Tragedy struck at a relaxation center in Iperu, as Professor Yinka Olowojobi, a lecturer at Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, was fatally shot in a horrifying incident.
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, revealed that Olowojobi was one of three individuals shot during a brazen attack by gunmen at Ajadeh Event Centre on Sagamu Road, Iperu, around 9:20 p.m. last Friday.
“Despite being taken to Babcock University Teaching Hospital for medical attention, the lecturer succumbed to his injuries,” Odutola stated.
Reports indicate that a group of armed men, dressed in black, stormed the relaxation lounge and unleashed a hail of bullets indiscriminately. Olowojobi reportedly sustained fatal gunshot wounds to the chest after refusing to comply with the assailants’ demands. Additionally, a car stand manager identified as Dare, and another individual, were abducted by the gunmen.
Odutola further revealed that the arrest of Awada Ishaya from Plateau State, employed as a security guard at the event center two weeks prior, raised suspicion and warranted further investigation.
In response to the tragic incident, Babcock University issued a statement through Dr. Joshua Suleiman, its Director of Communication and Marketing, expressing shock and mourning over the loss. The university pledged full cooperation with law enforcement agencies and the Ogun State government in apprehending the perpetrators and enhancing security measures in the region.
Describing Olowojobi as a dedicated educator and vibrant personality, the university extended heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, colleagues, and students. The statement assured stakeholders of ongoing efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property within and around the university campus through collaborative endeavors with relevant authorities and local vigilance groups.
