Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly set to extend Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface’s contract until 2029, sweetened with a significant pay rise, as the club fends off interest from Manchester United.
According to *Sky Germany*, Leverkusen is in advanced talks with the 23-year-old to extend his current deal, which runs until 2028. The new contract would make Boniface one of the club’s highest earners, raising his annual salary from €3 million.
Boniface has been a standout player since joining from Union Saint-Gilloise in 2023. He netted 29 goals and provided 10 assists in 49 appearances last season, playing a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s historic Bundesliga title win and DFB-Pokal triumph. This season, he continued his fine form by scoring the opener in their German Super Cup victory.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, with the Nigerian international earning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and attracting interest from top European clubs, including Manchester United. Despite the interest, Boniface has previously expressed a preference for La Liga over the Premier League, indicating his next move, if any, could favor Spain.
Currently sidelined with a thigh injury sustained on international duty, Boniface remains central to Leverkusen’s plans. Transfer expert Patrick Berger reports that while English clubs are monitoring the situation, Boniface is happy at Leverkusen and envisions his immediate future at the BayArena.
Leverkusen’s commitment to extending Boniface’s contract underscores their determination to retain key players under manager Xabi Alonso as the club aims to build on last season’s historic success, despite a slower start to the current campaign.
