In a bid to promote peace and understanding, the Belgium Embassy in Abuja organized an art competition for children aged 8 to 10, encouraging them to express their visions of peace through creativity. The competition concluded with a colorful closing ceremony at the residence of the Belgian Ambassador, showcasing the remarkable works of over 50 young participants.
The initiative, aimed at fostering a generation that values harmony and unity, was a vivid display of how children interpret peace in a world often marked by conflict. Through their artworks, the children depicted themes of diverse cultures coexisting peacefully and nature untouched by violence.
Belgian Ambassador Pieter Leenknegt emphasized the belief that peace begins with children and that art serves as a powerful medium for them to communicate their ideas. He expressed hope that the children’s messages of dialogue, respect, and understanding would inspire adults to envision a more peaceful world.
Various speakers at the event highlighted the role of art in conveying meaningful messages and its potential to transform perspectives. The young artists demonstrated that the competition not only encouraged creativity but also prompted them to think critically about the concept of peace and their role in promoting it.
The ceremony concluded with an awards presentation, recognizing outstanding participants for their exceptional contributions. Organizers expressed hope that these young artists would continue to carry the message of peace beyond their artwork and into their communities.
