In Idemili North and South Local Government Areas, the National Biotechnology Development Agency, under the Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology, launched a renewable energy training program aimed at equipping women and youths with skills in biogas production. The training, held at Nnokwa Civic Center, was sponsored by Honorable Uchenna Okonkwo, the Member representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency.
The initiative brought together over fifty participants from the council area to learn methods of converting human and animal waste into biogas, which can be used for cooking, powering generators, and producing liquid organic fertilizer for agriculture. According to Mr. Chris Kalu, a resource person from the Ministry, transforming waste into biogas offers environmental benefits and promotes sustainable development.
Community leaders and participants, including the President General of the Nnokwa Progressive Union, Wing Commander Joe Anyika (Rtd), along with Mr. Charles Mbakaigwe, Barrister Peters Okwudili, Honourable Edozie Maduabum, and Mrs. Uche Ezejideaku, praised Honorable Okonkwo for bringing the valuable training to Nnokwa. They expressed confidence in its potential to improve their financial wellbeing and called for similar initiatives across other communities in the state.
The event concluded with the presentation of certificates to the participants, marking the successful completion of their biogas training.
