The Catholic Bishop of Idah Diocese, Reverend Anthony Adaji, has sharply criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, warning that Nigeria is on the brink of becoming a failed state. Speaking during his 60th birthday celebration at Our Lady Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Idah on Sunday, Adaji expressed concerns over the nation’s governance and democracy.
“Nigeria is becoming a failed state. A state where the people can no longer trust the government,” Adaji said. He pointed to the political system, citing how local government election results consistently favor the ruling party, which he argued undermines democracy.
The bishop also decried the economic hardship in the country, attributing it to poor governance and the mismanagement of Nigeria’s abundant resources. He condemned the removal of fuel subsidies and the rising cost of living, which he said has left many Nigerians struggling to afford basic necessities like food.
Adaji called for honest governance and a reduction in the cost of running government, emphasizing that the wealth of the nation is being mismanaged. He urged Nigerians to pray for a more united and prosperous country, warning that if the current trends continue, Nigeria’s situation will worsen.
“There is nothing to lose in telling the truth. If the government is committed to uplifting this country forward, the cost of governance must be cut off,” the bishop said, adding that the country is heading towards “doom” if immediate action is not taken.
