Bishop On The Niger, Nwokolo Visits Victims of Collapsed Building at DMGS

The Rt. Rev. Owen Nwokolo, Bishop on the Niger, recently visited the two survivors of the collapsed centenary building at Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), who are currently receiving treatment at the University on the Niger Teaching Hospital, Iyi Enu. During his visit, Bishop Nwokolo engaged warmly with the survivors, offering prayers and comfort.

The Bishop assured that the Diocese on the Niger is covering their medical bills and daily needs. The survivors, who appeared stable and in good spirits, expressed their gratitude to the Bishop for his visit and prayers, and praised the hospital staff for their professional care.

In a related development, Dr. Chijioke Ojji, Director of Operations for the DMGS Centenary, released a statement indicating that the cause of the building collapse remains unknown and is under investigation. Agencies involved include the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON), the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Anambra State Physical Planning Board, and the Nigerian Police. Dr. Ojji affirmed their full cooperation with these bodies to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.

The statement commended the bravery of volunteers and the support of the Anambra State Government, fire services, and other responders. It emphasized that the priority remains the safety of all involved and securing the site, urging the public to rely on official updates and avoid social media speculation.

Additionally, the release expressed condolences and pledged support to the family of the third individual, Gideon Ezeigwe, who was deceased by the time of his rescue. It promised to provide factual information as the investigation progresses.
