Elder statesman and member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has criticized President Bola Tinubu’s recent media chat, describing it as lacking empathy and humanity in addressing the plight of suffering Nigerians.
Speaking on Channels Television’s *Politics Today* on Tuesday, George expressed disappointment with the President’s remarks, particularly in light of recent tragic food queue stampedes in Abuja, Anambra, and Ibadan, which claimed 67 lives. He lamented the growing hunger and anger in the country, accusing the President of being disconnected from the realities faced by Nigerians.
“Hunger doesn’t believe in your talk—you’ve got to be real,” George said, adding, “I’m surprised there is no iota of somberness and humanity in the discussion. Why have the media chat in the first instance?”
George criticized the President’s insistence that his economic reforms are working, stating that these policies have left many Nigerians poorer, with businesses collapsing across the country. He called for immediate palliatives to alleviate the suffering of citizens, stressing that the high cost of living, particularly the price of petrol, must be addressed urgently.
The elder statesman described the media chat as an insensitive way to end the year, urging the Tinubu administration to adopt a more compassionate approach to governance and prioritize the well-being of Nigerians over economic rhetoric.
The tragic stampedes, which occurred during food item distributions, have further highlighted the growing desperation among Nigerians grappling with economic hardship.
