Burkina Faso has secured their spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after a 2-0 victory over Burundi in a qualifying match on Sunday. The Stallions’ goals came from Bertrand Traore and Mohamed Konate during the match held in Abidjan.
The qualification marks Burkina Faso’s 14th appearance at AFCON. Their journey to qualification included a draw with Senegal, a win over Malawi, and two victories against Burundi. The Burkina Babes’ best performance in the tournament was in 2013, when they finished as runners-up to Nigeria in South Africa.
Senegal is also in a strong position to qualify alongside Burkina Faso and could confirm their place in Morocco next year if they defeat Malawi on Tuesday. Currently, Burkina Faso leads their group with 10 points, followed by Senegal with seven, Burundi with three, and Malawi yet to register any points.
Though Morocco has already qualified as the host nation, they are participating in the qualifiers for match practice ahead of the tournament.
