Renowned Nigerian singer Burna Boy has addressed the controversy surrounding his actions at the 2025 Lagos Countdown concert, where he was seen kicking a fan who attempted to touch him on stage.
The incident, captured in a now-viral video, sparked widespread criticism, with many online users labeling the artist as arrogant.
In an Instagram story on Wednesday evening, Burna Boy clarified his actions, attributing his reaction to PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). He urged fans to respect his boundaries during performances.
“It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 minutes and did almost one hour. Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I’m performing,” he wrote. “I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night. Don’t jump on my stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy new year.”
PTSD, a condition resulting from exposure to traumatic events, can lead to heightened sensitivity to unexpected stimuli. Burna Boy’s statement has reignited conversations about mental health awareness among artists.
