Chief Jonathan Nzekwe, a prominent business figure based in Lagos, has called on the federal government to implement lasting solutions to the nation’s economic downturn.
In an exclusive interview with ABS, Chief Nzekwe emphasized the urgent need for sincere economic reforms to overcome the current challenges facing Nigeria. He expressed concern over the excessive reliance of Nigerian businesses and manufacturers on the dollar for transactions, advocating for a shift towards using the Naira.
Chief Nzekwe urged the National Assembly to pass legislation mandating all Nigerians, including expatriates, to conduct business transactions solely in the local currency. He believes this move would strengthen the Naira and restore its former stability and prominence.
Hailing from Umuonaga village in Awka, Anambra State, Chief Nzekwe also called on both the federal and state governments to support and incentivize the private sector to enhance production for both domestic consumption and export, thus bolstering the economy.
Additionally, he urged the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to introduce further reforms in the banking sector to foster greater confidence among Nigerians in both commercial and microfinance banks nationwide.
Expressing empathy for the hardships faced by Nigerians, Chief Nzekwe appealed to the federal government to implement additional measures aimed at alleviating the suffering of the populace.
