The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has awarded Nigeria’s Super Eagles three points and three goals following Libya’s failure to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier. The decision was announced on Saturday, strengthening the Super Eagles’ position at the top of their qualifying group.
With this verdict, Nigeria now holds 10 points from four matches, four points ahead of Benin, their closest rivals. Libya remains at the bottom of the group with just one point. A draw in their upcoming match against Benin in Abidjan next month would secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2025 AFCON tournament, scheduled to take place in Morocco in December 2025.
In addition to awarding points to Nigeria, CAF has imposed a $50,000 fine on the Libya Football Federation, which must be paid within 60 days of receiving the decision.
