CAF Releases 10-Man Shortlist for 2023 Player of the Year, Excludes Mohamed Salah and Victor Boniface

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled a 10-man shortlist for the prestigious 2023 Player of the Year award, featuring standout players from across the continent. Among those who made the cut are Nigerian stars Ademola Lookman (Atalanta) and William Troost-Ekong (Al-Kholood).

Other notable names on the list include Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi (PSG), Simon Adingra (Côte d’Ivoire, Brighton), Ronwen Williams (South Africa, Orlando Pirates), and Serhou Guirassy (Guinea, Borussia Dortmund/Frankfurt). The list also features Amine Gouiri (Algeria, Rennes), Chancel Mbemba (Congo, Marseille), and Soufiane Brahimi (Morocco, Real Madrid).

Surprisingly, some high-profile players were left out, including Mohamed Salah (Egypt, Liverpool), Victor Boniface (Nigeria, Bayer Leverkusen), Nicolas Jackson (Senegal, Chelsea), Mohammed Kudus (Ghana, West Ham), and Brahim Diaz (Morocco, Real Madrid).

The final winner of the CAF Player of the Year award will be determined in a ceremony scheduled later this year.
