Captain Rasheedat Ajibade is optimistic as the Super Falcons prepare for a crucial Group C match against Japan, scheduled to take place at the Stade de la Beaujoire in Nantes on Wednesday.
The Super Falcons, currently at the bottom of Group C after two consecutive defeats, must secure a win against the Nadeshiko to keep their hopes of advancing to the quarterfinals alive. A victory could allow them to progress either through goal difference or by securing the second or third spot in the group.
Reflecting on their previous encounter, Nigeria defeated Japan 1-0 at the 2004 Olympics in Piraeus, Greece. Ajibade is confident that history can repeat itself.
“Victory over Japan is possible. We will work hard so that we can accomplish that. The Super Falcons have done it before and we can do it again,” Ajibade told thenff.com.
The team, led by Randy Waldrum, is determined to turn their fortunes around in this do-or-die match, aiming to secure a place in the quarterfinals and continue their campaign.
