A car washer has been arrested for causing a fatal accident while test-driving a customer’s car in the Mushin area of Lagos. The incident resulted in the death of one pedestrian and injuries to three others, who are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
The owner of the Toyota Camry had left the car at a car wash in the Olosha area of Mushin, planning to return for it later. However, 25-year-old Olamide Quadri, one of the car washers, allegedly took the car for a test drive without the owner’s consent after washing it.
Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, provided details of the incident. “On June 2, at about 8:20 p.m., the Divisional Police Officer of Mushin Division received a distress call about a fatal accident at Olosha, Agege Motor Road, Mushin. The DPO immediately responded to the scene, where a Toyota Camry had somersaulted several times and knocked down four pedestrians. The victims were rushed to the hospital, where one of them, identified as Tayo, died while receiving treatment.”
Preliminary investigations revealed that Quadri took the car for a test drive without the owner’s permission. The car involved in the accident was recovered and moved to the Alakara Police Station, while the deceased’s body was deposited at the Mainland General Hospital mortuary for an autopsy. Efforts are ongoing to reach the family members of the deceased.
